This woodblock print was produced in 2024, as an extension of an idea from a painting completed in 2016 of the road intersection in Kentish Town
In late 2023 and early 2024 there was major construction and road works at this location. This added to the view the inclusion of temporary signage, road blockages and traffic cones which partially obscured the former traditional landscape view.
The work begun initially as a drawing made directly on location.
The drawing was then transferred in reverse, onto a single piece of wood that was carved. The print was hand-printed onto Japanese Kozo paper,
The inclusion of the blue arrowed road sign is a reference to Modernism, highlighted in the composition as the only element in colour. Contrasting against the historical monochromatic, linear, tonal aspects within wood block relief printing. Describing the historical architectural landscape.
